Section 3 of the 14th Amendment is a clause in the U.S. Constitution that was enacted after the Civil War and intended to prevent former Confederates from holding office. It says this:
“No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may, by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.” This is what Colorado, Maine and other states are trying to run up our flag pole.
Now I don’t condone what the protesters did that day or how they went about it, but I do understand their frustration. I’ve heard over the past 3 years that this is not how we go about it in this country. We fix it in voting booth. Well, guess what we have been trying to handle it at the ballot box for more years then I can remember, and what have we got for our efforts? We have a national debt of over 30 trillion dollars, taxation, as far as I’m concerned, without representation, politicians spending money they don’t have, our personal freedoms regulated to high heaven and, year after year, vote after vote, politicians who are in it for personal gain as opposed to the well-being of the hard-working Americans who put them there. I still maintain that the 2020 results were not up to snuff, so their frustration is understood.
But when we look at the direction that the hard left wants this country to take, I don’t believe it’s what main stream America has the stomach for. President Trump is not a pro-establishment type of guy and his “Drain the swamp” approach to Washington D.C. scares these people to death. So much so that they will say and do anything to keep him off Pennsylvania Ave. which is what these states are trying to do through section 3 of the 14th amendment. As far as I’m concerned, these people are a bunch of cowards who are afraid to face this guy in a hopefully fair election. They are the threat to our democracy.
You know there are some other cowards in this country, like Cher and Barbra Streisand, just to name a few, that said if Trump is reelected, we’re leaving the country. They have been saying that since George W. got elected, and they are still here. This time I think we should start a Go Fund for some plane tickets in coach they aren’t worthy of first class.
Trump was impeached by the house one week after the riot for "incitement of insurrection". He left office on Jan. 20 and was acquitted by the Senate more than three weeks later. In my book, that means not guilty, which kills their 14th amendment claim. On Feb 8th the Supreme Court will begin hearing oral arguments and will fast-track a decision, a decision I’m confident will be favorable for the former president,
He’s gotem Runnin’ Scared.
